ADCS TLS CERTIFICATE INFO.

by Admin » Fri Mar 08, 2019 8:17 pm

1.Why would You need to download hub's certificate?

Although ADCS hubs are encripted, there is a small risk of getting "cheated" by so called Man in the middle attack. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-in-the-middle_attack.
Therefore downloading hub's TLS certificate and placing it in your clients "Certificates" directory will eliminate this kind of issues.

2.What do i do with it?
Well, after downloading it, place it in folder Certificates in DC++ or any other DC client that you might be using atm. Usually for users using Windows OS this will be in users -> Username -> AppData -> Roaming -> DC++ -> Certificates or:
Code: Select all
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\client_name\Certificates

Just drop the cert there, restart the client and reconnect to hub.
Now hub has T or S status for trusted or secured. There is no need of renaming it - hublist generates unique id for each cert file provided.

3.How do i upload certificate file as a hub owner?

Step 1. Make sure your hub software supports ADC protocol.
In older NeoModus protocol only verlihub (latest versions) has a way to do encryption.
So if you using Ptokax, YnHub forget about certs! Just stay the way u are.
For adc hubs that are able to serve via ssl or tls (adcs://) and latest verlihubs proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Make sure to setup adcs:// connections or on verlihub nmdcs:// so your hub address indicates encryption. If it is all setup properly - you can upload your hub's certificate (must be in .crt format) via hubs edit page. Upload option is in your menu under edit hub. Login to https://dchublist.org to get access to it.

Good luck and happy and safe sharing.

/Edit 5.1.2020 - removed .zip requirement./ Hades.

Under normal for users using Winows OS this will be usually in users -> Username -> AppData -> Roaming -> DC++ -> Certificates.

Better use
Code: Select all
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\
and then \client_name; it is an universal way.

Still wanna have crt-checked hubs to be marked somehow inside the common list of hubs. https://www.iconfinder.com/icons/111039/key_icon or https://www.iconfinder.com/search/?q=checkbox or something like. Or maybe even with another background color?

P.S. Tried to put utf-8 'lock' smile char like Husaria using, but forum SQL base said NO WAY.
